Beaver County Event at Brigit’s Garden

There is a Beaver County Event this Sunday April 12th in Brigit’s Garden. Cost per Beaver is €5. 

We will be leaving from Claregalway Community Centre @ 8:30AM, returning @ 2PM. 

All Beavers should bring:

  1. Uniform & Neckerchief
  2. Small Lunch & Drink
  3. Rain Gear and Waterproof shoes.

Beaver Scouts Sleepover in Claregalway Community Centre

Times & Date: 18:30 Saturday 28th -> 09:00 Sunday 29th March
Location: Claregalway Community Centre

Details
We are planning to run a Beaver Scout Camp this June. As preparations for this event we are having a sleepover in Claregalway Community Centre next weekend (28th/29th Mar). This will allow the Beavers to experience the fun of overnight camping in a safe, secure and dry environment close to home. All tents will be put up inside the community centre. This event is being run with the Cub Scouts so we will have 15+ Leaders in attendance.

Our schedule for the weekend is as follows:

Saturday

  • 18.30 Beavers arrive at Community Centre
  • 19:00 Setup tents
  • 20.00 Bases (Orienteering and Obstacle Course)
  • 21:00 Night Hike or Movie (weather dependent)
  • 22:00 Hot Chocolate & Cookie
  • 22:30 Teeth and prepare for bed
  • 23:00 Lights out

Sunday

  • 07:30 Breakfast (Beaver to bring own cereal in a plastic container with lid, milk will be provided)
  • 08:00 Tents down/tidy up
  • 09:00 Beavers collected at Community Centre

What to bring

As this is a preparation for Beaver Scout Camp in June we ask that all Beavers bring the following gear with them in a rucksack even though all may not be required. We will be doing a gear check so that they understand the importance of a properly packed rucksack.

  • Uniform – To be worn going on camp i.e. Beaver sweatshirt, neckerchief and woggle and navy scout pants or plain navy tracksuit bottoms.
  • 12th Claregalway Neckerchief must be worn at all times
  • Camp Clothes (the kind that if damaged would not be missed but are comfortable to wear).
    It is recommended for Beavers to wear a number of light layers that can be can be removed depending on the weather conditions NO JEANS.
  • Rain Gear (top and bottoms)
  • Warm clothes for night-time including warm hoodie/sweater, gloves and hat
  • Spare Clothes (Tracksuits, Underwear, t-shirts etc.)
  • Strong shoes/boots
  • Sleeping Bag and ground sheet/foam mat for underneath. NO PILLOWS
  • Pyjamas
  • Towel, Day Bag, Toiletries and any required medication
  • Drinking water bottle with your Beavers name clearly labelled (500ml)
  • Torch (+ spare batteries)
  • Newspaper in a plastic bag (to use as a seat)
  • Plastic Bags (for keeping wet clothes/laundry separate from clean clothes)
  • Plastic cup, container (with dry cereal) and cutlery (all labelled)

All personal equipment should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. Your child will have to be able to carry his/her gear without assistance from the Leaders so please bear this in mind when packing and everything should be packed in the one bag, ideally a rugsack. No loose items please.

Please do not let your child bring:

  • Any valuables including mobile phone, camera, electronic equipment or money
  • Snack food or sweets (all treats will be provided)
  • Pocketknife

Please ensure that someone is available to collect your Beaver in the unlikely event that this may be necessary.

Beaver Scouts Trip to Connemara National Park

Date: Sunday 22nd March
Location: Connemara National Park, Letterfrack, Co Galway
Cost: €14

Details
It takes 1 hr 45 minutes to travel from Claregalway to Letterfrack by bus so we plan to leave from Claregalway Community Centre at 8:45am sharp, We will be returning to the Community Centre at approx. 4:15pm.

Our schedule for the day is as follows:

  • 10.30 AM: Meet in Courtyard for Scavenger Hunt (Park Staff)
  • 11.00 AM: Lower Diamond Walk (this can take up to 1 hour) (Beaver Leaders)
  • 12.15 PM: Lunch and playground
  • 01.00 PM: Tree Walk and Craft Activity (Park Staff)
  • 02.30 PM: Leave for Claregalway

What to bring

Mandatory kit includes:

  • Beaver Uniform with neckerchief and woggle
  • Raingear (Jacket and Trousers)
  • Small rucksack
  • Hat, gloves and scarf
  • Strong (ideally waterproof) shoes/boots or wellies
  • Newspaper in a plastic bag (to use as a seat)
  • Sandwich and drink

Upcoming Beaver Events

Hi all,
We have a number of activities organised in March which we would like to bring to your attention:

  1. Tuesday 10th March, evening/night walk in Lisheenkyle Woods (see post below)
  2. Sunday 22nd March, trip to Connamara National Park
  3. Saturday 28th March, overnight sleepover in Claregalway Community Centre

We will provide more details on the trip to Connamara National Park and the Community Centre Sleepover in the following days but for now could you all confirm via TEXT to 086 0545329 if your Beaver will/will not be attending these events. If they cannot attend one or more of the three events please indicate clearly in the message.

Adventure Skills – Air Activities Stage 1

airx_smallBeavers who were with the group last year achieved this badge and we hope that the new Beavers will also! In fact, we hope that those that already have achieved Stage 1 can help others do the same.

Here are the requirements for the Stage 1 badge

  • I can name all the things I know that can fly
  • I can show pictures of and be able to talk about different types of flying machines.
  • I can build a paper airplane from an A4 sheet that will fly, climb and turn.
  • I can discuss the features of an airport from a model or picture (Runway, Terminal and Control Tower).
  • I know how to be safe around aircraft
  • I have visited an airport

Getting Ready for a Beaver Hike

As we get ready for the first hike of the new Scouts year with the Beaver group, here’s some info on what Beavers need to bring with them on the day:

  • Packed lunch & drink
  • Newspaper in a plastic bag to use as a seat
  • Wet gear – top & bottoms
  • Strong (ideally waterproof) shoes/boots
  • Change of clothes
  • Change of footwear

We’ll be doing a quick bag check on Tuesday (Sep 30) night in advance so please bring the packed bag that night.
