Beavers County Skills Day

Location: St. Bridgit’s Garden (see map below for directions)
Date: Sunday, April 2nd
Drop-off: 9.30am
Pick-up: 1.30pm
Cost: €3 per Beaver (payable March 14th)

Claregalway Beavers will be taking part in the Galway County Skills day in Bridgit’s Garden, outside Moycullen, on April 2nd. It’s a fun day out with games and outdoor skills demonstrations.

As this is a County Event, which involves beavers from across Galway, numbers are strictly limited. To ensure your Beaver’s place for this event, we ask that you confirm if your Beaver is attending and pay the €3 fee by next Tuesday, 14th March if at all possible. The sooner we get our numbers confirmed, the better.

Travel time across to Bridget’s Garden is 45 – 60 minutes. Car pooling is advised if possible between parents; maybe one parent can drop a few off and another parent can pick up the same.

  • Warm clothing advised, inc hat and gloves
  • Strong, waterproof footwear
  • Waterproof leggings and jacket
  • Change of socks and trousers in case
  • Sit-upon (plastic bag with folded newspaper that packs flat).

NOTE: Please be advised that there isa NO NUT policy due to severe allergy with one child attending. No child should bring nuts, which includes Nutella, in their packed lunch.

Beavers Hike at Abbey Hill

Hi All,

Next Beavers meeting is a hike on Abbey Hill, outside Kinvara, this Sunday.

Drop-off & pick-up will be at the Green Road outside Kinvara (see map below).

Cubs are back…

Wednesday 1st February 6.45 pm

meeting : The Secondary School (Colaiste Bhaile Chlair)

Full uniform required. Badges that were awarded before the Christmas break should by now be sewn onto your cubs jumper.

As you may know, the new Claregalway secondary school building has opened and there is a new road going into the school from the Lakeview road, which is the road leading to the Cubs Den/community centre.

Follow this new road into the school to the end and you will find the building that we have our meetings in.

The gates at the end of the road ,through the Claregalway Corporate Park, that we used last year have been closed so you will not be able to access the school from this road any longer.

Looking forward to seeing all the youth members again.

12th Galway Cubs celebrate 100 years of cub scouting – party !

100 years of cub scouting…

The Wolf Cub scheme was started by The Scout Association in 1916. To celebrate this momentous occasion 12th Galway Cubs have organised a party

Where – Knockdoemore Clubhouse

When – Friday 9th December

Time – 6 pm to 9pm.

This party is strictly limited to 12th Galway Cubs  and nominated friends. Entry will be checked on the door.

There will be party games, tuck shop , disco  and lots more – don’t be late !

Registration Evening

Scouts Registration 2016-17

We’re back after the Summer break and ready for another year of Scouting. To get the year started, we will be having our registration evening next Monday. Details are:

Date: Mon Sep 12
Time: 7-8pm
Place: Scout Den upstairs at Claregalway Community Centre.

Please complete the Registration Form and Activities Consent Forms and bring these with you on the night.

Registration costs for this year are €90 for a single member, €160 for 2 family members or €240 for 3 family members

Existing members

All existing members form last year that wish to continue need to be registered again for this year.

New Members

As there is a waiting list for most sections, you need to have previously submitted a waiting list form to be included on the list. At this time of year, we review the list and invite new members to register. You will be contacted by the relevant Section leader or the overall Group Leader if a place has become available.

For those considering joining (or adding a name to the list), it is important to understand that Scouting aims to support young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development with a strong focus on the outdoors. This means that all sections will have many outdoor activities during the year such as hikes, water activities, backwoods, camping and more. As we live in Ireland, we do these in all kinds of weather conditions!



Beaver Camp Preparation – UPDATE

It’s almost time for our annual camp. In addition to the packing checklist below, here are some further updates. Please read and get in touch (text to 086 054 5329) if you have any questions.

Departure/Arrival Times

We will depart at 4.30pm sharp on Friday from the Community Centre. We are driving individually (to keep costs down) & there will be quite a bit of packing of rucksacks etc into cars so please try to arrive around 4.

We expect to be back at the Community Centre at 1pm on Sunday. If it is going to be later we will send out a text that morning.

Packing & Weather

Here is the checklist again of items that Beavers will need. Please note that clothing items on the list below include those that the Beaver will wear when leaving for camp (uniform, tracksuit & footwear).

At our bag check on Tue evening, there were quite a few Beavers without rain gear. It’s really important that all Beavers have rainproof jacket, trousers and footwear – especially given the forecast for this weekend.


It’s also important that the contents of the rucksack are kept inside a plastic bag to avoid getting wet. You may decide to use multiple bags to separately pack night gear for example.

Sleeping bag and mat are often strapped onto the outside of the rucksack so please ensure that these are separately covered with a plastic bag each to keep them dry.


All food for Sat & Sun is included in the price. We’re asking that Beavers bring a packed lunch/evening tea for Fri when we arrive at camp.

Payment Balance

The balance of the camp costs (€20 for those that paid the €15 deposit) is due on Friday. We have to pay for everyone when we arrive at camp (as well as buying food etc in advance) so please do make sure to bring any balance due with you on Friday.

Activity Consent Forms for Beaver Camp

An Activity Consent form must be completed for each Beaver going on camp. We will be asking parents to complete these for tomorrow (Tue) evening’s Beaver meeting in Knockdoemore.

The form can be printed out and completed in advance if that is more convenient. Alternatively, we will have forms available for completion with us on Tuesday evening.
